Risk 1. Disappearing with the deposit
The most common scheme: a "middleman" creates an attractive website or social media page, promises a car at a tempting price, takes a deposit (tens of thousands of hryvnias) and then disappears. Some even send a signed contract and ask for the remaining balance to be paid to various bank cards. After that — silence. Bought reviews and fake photos of "happy clients" are a classic sign.
Risk 2. Companies with no experience (created "yesterday")
Firms that have existed for less than a year, have no office, publish no real case studies but actively advertise "the lowest prices" are constantly entering the market. How to check: look up when the company was registered (EDRPOU number), whether there is a physical address, and how many real reviews exist on Google Maps and 2GIS — not just on the company's own website. Fraudsters often buy reviews or create fake ones.
Risk 3. Hidden fees and unexpected extra charges
The middleman quotes a low price, but along the way "additional costs" appear that were never mentioned: "urgent port storage", "extra document processing", "customs delays". In the end the total cost grows by 20–30%. How to avoid this: always demand a written contract with a full breakdown of all costs — from purchase to registration.
How to tell professionals from amateurs
- Years in business: companies with 10+ years of experience (like Star Trans Logistic, founded in 2006) have established processes and in-house brokers. Newcomers are a risk.
- Real office and legal entity: fraudsters often operate as sole traders or without any registration at all.
- Transparency: professionals provide a full cost estimate before payment, help verify the vehicle and have direct agreements with Copart and IAAI.
- Reviews on independent platforms: Google Maps, 2GIS, forums — not only on their own website.
Conclusion
Saving money on a middleman means risking the entire amount. Choose a company with transparent terms, genuine experience and a proven reputation. Don't fall for "the lowest price in Ukraine" — in 90% of cases it is a trap.
